3 secrets to choosing the perfect photo for your Diamond PaintingUpdated 2 months ago
Before you upload a photo, remember this: while the photo is undoubtedly beautiful on your computer or phone, some images will not turn out beautiful as a diamond painting. There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a photo.
Choose only large, high-quality photos
Pay attention to the colors and shadows of the original photo
Choose the size that best fits the photo
1. Choose only large, high-quality photos
If the image is even slightly blurry or grainy, it will not turn out as beautiful as a diamond painting. Images must be of high quality and taken in good light to come out perfect as a diamond painting.
What makes a photo so good? pixels.
Imagine that each pixel is a tiny diamond. The more pixels (diamonds) in the image (canvas), the more details you get in the diamond painting. We need a good photo to make many pixels (diamonds). If we print the photo on a canvas, the final painting will look as bright as the original photo.
If the image is of poor quality when you zoom in (raw, grainy), choose a different image. Our paintings are made with a special (enlarged) program. If the photo is dark or contains many shadows and it has to be printed in a small format, you will hardly see any details.
Tip: if in doubt, use a handy computer program (e.g. Photoshop) to check the quality of the photos. If you're using your phone, zoom in to see what the photo looks like up close. The photo should have a minimum resolution of 1134 x 1134 pixels. Sometimes slightly fewer pixels are also fine, but then the photo must be razor sharp.

This way you find out how many pixels your chosen photo has: Choose your photo. Right-click and then go to 'Properties'. Under the heading 'Details' you can see exactly how many pixels the photo has.
2. Pay attention to the colors and shadows of the original photo
Some of the most common questions we hear are: “Why does the white part of my painting have a different color?”, “Why does the black part of my painting contain brown and green diamonds?”
If the original photo is light red or light blue, that color will be magnified 1000 times when converted into a diamond painting. If there is a slight red tint in the photo, this can - when enlarging the image - spread to parts of the painting that you would expect to be white.
When we enlarge the photo, each pixel becomes much clearer. It's like looking at your face in a close-up mirror. You can see every wrinkle, birthmark and pimple. With the diamond paintings you also notice all the pixels and details. To avoid this, we recommend making some basic color and tone adjustments through your favorite photo editing programs before uploading the photo. You can also use a free online tool to make these adjustments yourself, such as LunaPic.

3. Choose the format that best suits the photo
The two main things to look out for are: canvas size (what size should the painting be?) and canvas orientation (do I need a landscape, portrait or square canvas?)
Which size should I choose?
When choosing the canvas size, you should look carefully at how many people, dogs, etc. are on the photo. We recommend that the main part of the image takes up 70-90% of the frame for the ideal diamond painting.
When in doubt, here's a good rule of thumb where to follow

Do I need a landscape, portrait or square canvas?
Make sure you choose a canvas size that matches the aspect ratio of the original photo. For example, if the photo is landscape, then you should choose a canvas with the following sizes: 30x20, 60x40, 90x60.

Please note: if you select a square canvas and send us a landscape photo, we will have to crop the photo. Although we do our best to crop the photo as accurately as possible, we cannot guarantee that something you would have liked to be in the photo will be accidentally cropped.
