How many stones are inside a painting?Updated 2 months ago
Standard Drill Sizes
Diamond paintings use two types of drills:
Square drills: 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm
Round drills: 2.8 mm x 2.8 mm
Since diamond paintings are measured in centimeters, we need to convert the canvas size into millimeters and then divide by the drill size to determine the total number of drills.
Formula for Calculating the Number of Stones

Quick Reference Table
| Canvas Size (cm) | Square Drills (approx.) | Round Drills (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 20x30 | 9,600 | 7,143 |
| 30x40 | 19,200 | 15,285 |
| 40x50 | 32,000 | 25,510 |
| 50x60 | 48,000 | 38,776 |
| 60x80 | 76,800 | 61,224 |
Usage
If a customer asks how many drills should be in their painting, use the formula or the reference table.
